DOING GOOD IN THE WORLD

With 1.22 members around the world, Rotary International is an international service organization whose stated purpose is to bring together business and professional leaders in order to provide humanitarian service and to advance goodwill and peace around the world. It is a non-political and non-religious organization open to all.

Together, we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change – across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves. For more than 110 years, we’ve bridged cultures and connected continents to champion peace, fight illiteracy and poverty, promote clean water and sanitation, and fight disease.

Club activities, social events, and volunteer projects offer networking opportunities that build personal and professional connections. And Rotarians can extend those networks by visiting other clubs around the globe.

Rotary has contributed more than $2.1 billion to polio eradication since it launched the PolioPlus program in 1985, and it’s committed to raising $50 million each year for polio eradication activities. Because of a 2-to-1 matching agreement with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, that means that, each year, $150 million goes toward fulfilling Rotary’s promise to the children of the world: No child will ever again suffer the devastating effects of polio.

MYER COTTAGE

The refurbishment of the Myer House (B11) is proposed to make good for future multi-purpose Community uses. Rotary Eynesbury is committed to restoring cottage B11 and bring it back into a usable condition, to be ‘kept alive’ and become an asset to the Eynesbury community. While adhering to maintaining its era and charm, because the condition of the cottage is good overall, much can be done to return it to working order.

To maximize community uses of the cottage, the following renovations are proposed:

  • Removal of internal walls between the lounge and adjacent former master bedroom to create a larger meeting space will allow for the ongoing and sustainable use of the building
  • The wall between bathroom and toilet to create an all-abilities space to bring the building up to an acceptable, modern standard for community use; and
  • The wall between kitchen and dining room should be removed to provide a usable, kitchenspace for commercial usage and training purposes and to create more practical spaces overall.

(We have been advised by an engineer that these walls are not load-bearing and therefore this would be a simple process).

We are waiting on Pre-application feedback from Heritage Victoria

‘The proposed refurbishment works to the Myer House (B11) to allow for community use are supported and the works will require a permit application.’

‘Generally Heritage Victoria has a level of comfort with a proposed refurbishment of the Myer buildingsto allow their activation for community use, subject to the further detail’.
